These pieces of plant are critical components in the engineering industry that generally consist of a series (or multiple) of gears assembled in a cast housing. The units are driven either from an electrical or mechanical source which is transferred through a gear train assembly to provide a mechanical advantage to achieve specific requirements. Gearboxes utilise an array of gear types and configurations assembled to high precision tolerances to achieve said specifications. Figure 1`shows a typical spur gear style industrial gearbox.
