Generating Synergy CNH Industrial has 50 dedicated R&D centers worldwide and, with other brands, has been using Automation StudioTM by Famic Technologies for more than 10 years to design and simulate construction and agricultural machines. Before the merger into CNH Industrial, Iveco was using a standard CAD software without an advanced module for drawing its pneumatic schematics. Iveco started using Automation StudioTM after the merger in 2014. "By leveraging CNHi’s experience with Automation StudioTM as a best practice in fluid power, we decided to use this software to design and test our commercial vehicles. This enabled us to make good use of Automation StudioTM and generate great synergy," says Kiron Nandi, System Architect for Electro-Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems and components at Iveco. Design and Standardization For Kiron Nandi, it quickly became clear that Automation StudioTM could offer much more than better drawing capabilities. He explained: “With Automation StudioTM we were able to create, standardize and reuse our own component catalogues and designs for the first time. Drawing schematics became easier and more comfortable. For example, we are able to move circuit lines and define their properties with catalogue data. Additionally, we can automatically create bills of materials.” Thorough Training Iveco also reuses the schematics created in Automation StudioTM for training. For example, animated schematics are great to explain the functionality of a product in detail. "In a pilot project involving Iveco’s flagship in the Heavy product line, the pneumatic brake system of the Stralis XP was modelled in Automation StudioTM and used to train maintenance technicians. The trainer was excited about the possibilities offered by Automation StudioTM to explain the braking system’s functionalities and sees further potential in using this software," says Kiron Nandi. Reducing Testing Efforts and Costs "Iveco is increasingly using Automation StudioTM for simulation and test purposes. A typical application is the simulation of the ECE homologation tests for the certification of vehicles and vehicle parts. We reached excellent results and were able to significantly reduce the real efforts for the vehicle homologation with the help of preliminary tests and by correlating Automation StudioTM simulation results with vehicle measurement data," explains Kiron Nandi. Excellent Support “We have recognized the added value of Automation StudioTM and we plan to extend its use to other platforms and products. We will also increase its use for training purposes. Famic has greatly helped us in creating component catalogues.
