Initially designed to support effective response procedures in the manufacturing industry, Andon Studio software easily adapts to all factory and plant operations. It facilitates the sending and monitoring of service requests using the latest advances in communication technology. Andon StudioTM is a software solution that serves to immediately alert personnel (via touchscreen, email, SMS, etc…) of service calls related to operations, maintenance and production minimizing equipment downtime. Requests can be initiated manually by an operator or automatically by a machine-triggered condition. A multilingual interface uses icons to identify each step of the process (Fig. 1). Workers are alerted to the current step as well as the time elapsed since the beginning of the request (Fig. 2). Comprehensive reporting allows progress to be carefully monitored and documented. These customized reports are also used to evaluate and improve internal procedures, thereby increasing productivity and reducing costly delays. Adapted to facilities equipped with fixed terminals, Andon StudioTM is currently being used by Canada Post at its Léo-Blanchette plant in St-Laurent, Quebec. This software solution helps operators posted at various workstations communicate easily using touch screens that signal requests simultaneously throughout the system, while recording all exchanges on a central network for statistical and tracking purposes.
