Monitoring Architecture
PCVUE 32 has been designed to support multi-stations architectures to meet the growing demand of users to increase the capacity of supervision and control in the facilities. Previously, these objectives could be achieved only by traditional distributed systems or specific turnkey systems.
The concepts of client-server architectures and inter-stations messaging are included and are available in standard Windows NT and Windows 95/98 environments.
Single Station
In a traditional configuration single station, the supervisor manages all data controllers. PCVUE 32 supports a database of more than 10,000 variables in a single station. In situations where events must be time stamped at the source, PCVUE 32 handles the communication protocols carrying data and timestamps in millisecond. When they come from multiple controllers, the data are cross-classified before being displayed or historized.
Parallels Multi-stations
It is the easiest way to provide a redundant mode. Several traditional stations PCVUE32 share the monitoring and control process. Identical applications are running in parallel on each station. Operators’ actions and alarms acquisitions are broadcast to all stations in the association through the LAN computer.
Client-server
The client-server architecture is a more complex solution for applications requiring more operator stations, but with only one connection to industrial networks. The server is a data producer that communicates with PLCs and disseminates information to client stations or consumers. The PCVUE 32 communication inter-stations runs in event mode and transmits by block the significant events. The server may be an operational station or just a front end communication in order to improve its performances.
Client-Server in Parallel
In this configuration, two or more redundant servers running in parallel are dedicated for the communication with PLCs. Each client subscribes to a main server and to a secondary server. In case of failure of the main server, clients switch automatically and seamlessly to the secondary server. A PCVUE 32 client can connect via a remote access service to a server in another location. A link with rented telephone line, PSTN or satellite is even possible.
Optimized Client-Server
An optimized version of the PCVUE 32 client server architecture permits a server in standby (inactive). It is a client of the main server and can’t communicate with the PLC. When there is a primary server failure, the non active server will start the communication with the PLCs and becomes the main server. The exchange is transparent to client. When the failed server restarts, it can become the standby server or the main server. This solution is suitable for industrial networks with a single connection point. In the case of industrial networks multimaster, it offers the advantage of minimizing the load of communication.
Secure Client-Server
To provide a greater level of safety, it is possible to double the local network and the industrial network. Each PCVUE 32 client station can thus access to the PLCs information via two completely different paths.
Data Exchange in Supervision
Today supervisors should not just exchange data with industrial equipment but with stations outside the company. The PCVUE 32 Inter-stations Messaging provides a simple and efficient means of exchange between the various supervisory stations. The opening to the outside world requires more advanced technologies based on standards such as OPC, DDE, OLE and SQL.
Industrial Communication
CIMWAY, the PCVUE 32 core communication is a 32-bit nucleus real time and preemptive. Reading and writing information on industrial equipment are parameterized by the real needs of the application. The many available protocols allow the exchange of data over serial links, networks, Ethernet, Profibus, FIP, or TCP / IP,… CIMWAY interfaces with manufacturers’ cards or with the communication server APPLICOM. It manages the redundancy of acquisition or the telephone network switched for equipment located at remote sites. When the application requires a fine chronology of events, dating can be done at source by PLCs to the millisecond.
DBMS
Histories generated from PCVUE 32 may be written directly into one or more databases through ODBC interface. ODBC functions send SQL queries to a database for reading and writing in ACCESS, SQLBASE, SQLSERVER, ORACLE, ... A history server station PCVUE 32 can write into a DBMS installed on another PC, a workstation or a proprietary system. A supervision station or a station dedicated to another application, connected to the network, can read by SQL queries all or a part of these records from the DBMS. Similarly, revenues or production orders can be created from a computer on the network and read by a supervision station PCVUE 32. An opening is thus created for a link with production, maintenance management, or analysis tools SPC / SQC.
OLE 2
PCVUE as it is being both server and OLE 2 container; its objects can be directly imported or exported into other applications. You can thus import symbols from a computer drawing, or a table chart, and export your trend curves or your log in a sheet of your spreadsheet or in the text of your reports.
Intersites Messaging
In multi-stations configurations, messaging PCVUE 32 can exchange real-time values of variables between different stations. It allows even distribution of the alarms acquisition and operator actions.
Local Histories
Changes in values of states and measures can be historized locally on PCVUE 32 to be displayed as trend curves, SOE or logs. These local histories are made with a proprietary format optimized for the editing and redisplay the screen. They can be stored cyclically or by event to a backup unit that can be located on another computer network. A VCR function allows you to replay historical data dynamically.
OPC DDE / NETDDE
When real-time data are acquired via a communication server, PCVUE 32 may act as a client OPC / DDE of this server. A mode of exchange by block or DBE optimizes data transfers with this server. The real time data of the supervisor are available to other applications as manager ALERT by the DDE server PCVUE 32. On a network, PCVUE 32 uses OPC features or DDE Net in NetBios access, TCP / IP, ... Whatever type PCVUE 32 is, DDE server or client, the data are accessible in reading and writing modes.
Productivity Tools
Productivity Tools for Development in Supervision
Supervision of industrial or tertiary installations must meet standards of performance and usability of increasingly demanding. Optimally exploiting, multiprocessor architectures under Windows NT, PCVUE 32 follow the recommendations of user interface of Microsoft. Thus PCVUE 32 integrates as standard many tools to facilitate the implementation, maintenance and operation of your facility, giving it a proper role of productivity tool.
Total Dynamic Configuration
The GUI, database, tables, SCADA BASIC and even industrial communication, DDE, OLE 2 or inter-stations can be adjusted while still overseeing the process. While pursuing the alarm detection and management of historic and without disruption of ongoing operations, PCVUE 32 allows you all the inevitable changes in your application.
Preconfigured Animations
PCVUE 32 manages powerful preconfigured animations referring to the elementary variables, groups of variables or to calculated expressions. The windows of trends, alarm lists, instructions, VCR function, have all many options available in dialog boxes. Standard of configuration can be defined to homogenize the ergonomics of each application, both for an animation and for the presentation of a window.
Library of Objects
PCVUE 32 is delivered with libraries of preanimated 2D or 3D objects. Every object in a library can be easily changed and the modified object can be saved itself into the library without any specific tool.
Change a shape, a color or add a new variable and you have a new reusable object, completely adapted to your application. You can easily build user libraries tailored to your business.
Hierarchical Database
The PCVUE 32 hierarchical database allows you to organize your data in a way very close to reality. Searching for information and navigation in various parts of the application are then made easier and more natural in a non-structured database. Attribute in driving domain and in nature of variable provide additional selection criteria.
Genericity
Preanimated objects associated with the hierarchical database allow to build simply objects or generic windows. The objects and generic windows constitute indefinitely reusable models, without adding any graphic or script, inheriting different operating environments. Modifying a model automatically has repercussions on all items and all views of the application containing this model. By working in a generic manner, PCVUE 32 ensures an uniformity of presentation and of behavior of your application.
Opening
All configuration files for your PCVUE 32 applications are in ASCII in CSV format. These files are directly usable by the tools of the market, spreadsheet or DBMS. The database Factory may directly serve to create the PCVUE 32 database.
Configuration Centralized Management
The configuration database of your application PCVUE 32 may be centralized on a single workstation on the network. Each station on the network can change this centralized configuration, if it has rights, and create a new reference version. Each station in the network can recover at any time this reference configuration. Traceability of changes in your application is provided by PCVUE 32.
Business Layer
When the repeatability of your applications also implies the homogeneity of your supervisor stations, PCVUE 32 provides the means to leverage your experience by creating a real business layer that fits your needs. Thanks to the management of attributes associated with variable, sophisticated access rights and user libraries, PCVUE32 helps you automatically generate the sets and subsets common to all your applications.
